The fast food industry contributes for almost 20% distribution of food in Hong Kong. With the fast speed lifestyle ofHong Kong people, this growing form will keep on rising in the future. In spite of the fast expansion of some big chains and franchisors, such as McDonalds and KFC, in Hong Kong, other individual entities are also trying to gain market share in this profitable industry, such as Burgeroom and Hero Sandwich, comparatively at a smaller scale of fast food restaurant in comparison to McDonalds. Besides the traditional emphasis on the speed of service, fast food restaurants are now trying to show their concern on healthy dining in today’s healthy diet habit.

2. Casual dining

Casual dining can be defined as the middle position between fast food and fine dining. Typically this type of restaurant serves food with table service and with a relatively faster service than fine dining restaurant. Casual dining aims at creating customer value by providing food at reasonable price for customers. Real life examples in Hong Kong are Outback and Ruby Tuesday.

3. Fine dining

Fine dining is probably the most expensive type of restaurant among all different categories. Indubitably, however, it would be the most pleasant dining with the highest quality of food, drink and particularly the dining environment and the distinct services. Typically, this type of restaurant would require customers to dress formally and it is often located in some high-class areas or expensive hotels. Real life examples for this could be L’Atelier de Joël Robuchon Owned by chef Joël Robuchon that score 28 Michelin Guide stars of his restaurants. Also, Noma is a two Michelin star restaurant that is run by chef René Redzepi.
